Homestamp: place description via blockchain

Renting or letting real estate? Then you are required to create a property description. Thanks to the mobile app Homestamp (from Immoweb), you can create a professional property description yourself via Blockchain.

What is Homestamp?

The Homestamp mobile application allows you to create detailed place descriptions completely by yourself. Thanks to it, the process of creating place descriptions is easier for both tenant and landlord. You act as the experts yourself, so you don’t need to hire an external expert. This saves both parties time and money. Update August 2024: The Homestamp app can no longer be found in the App Store. Thus, it no longer works. However, you can still find all the information about it in this article.

How does Homestamp work?

  1. Download the Homestamp app for free App Store / Play Store.
  2. Photograph and film all the necessary places in your house or apartment.
  3. Upload the images (possibly with comments) into a folder within the Homestamp app.
  4. Get your report certified.
  5. Then share the place description with all parties.

Who is Homestamp designed for?

  • Landlords who want to rent out their properties in a cost-effective manner while establishing a reliable placeholder.
  • Tenants who want assurance of the condition of the leased premises upon move-in and move-out.
  • Real estate agents looking to expand their services by offering clients an easy way to create their own place descriptions.

Why should you use Homestamp?

With Homestamp, you compile your own detailed place description with photos and descriptions of the property’s condition. You do this directly through the mobile app.

  • By using Blockchain, the app stores all the data in the placeholder in a secure and immutable way. This means that the information cannot be changed after registration, making the document extra reliable.
  • Because you can prepare the site description yourself without hiring an outside expert, you save on the costs normally associated with hiring an expert.
  • The app makes the process quick and easy, allowing you to capture the place description immediately upon move-in or completion of a property, without having to wait for an expert.
  • The app is designed to be easy to navigate, even for users without a technical background, so anyone can easily create a placeholder.
  • The integration of Blockchain ensures that the data captured is irrefutable, which can help with any disputes between tenant and landlord.

What is Blockchain?

Blockchain is a way to capture data securely and immutably in a digital “chain” of blocks. Each block contains information, and once that information is stored, it cannot be modified. Because each new modification is linked to the previous one, it creates a chain that is difficult to manipulate (e.g., by users, hackers). This makes blockchain particularly reliable for applications where trust and security are important such as financial transactions, online legal documents or digital contracts.

What are alternatives to Homestamp?

As far as we researched in August 2024, we found no apps that let you format a place description for free. Now there are 2 alternatives:

  • Hire an expert (e.g., a surveyor, an architect, etc.) to draw up the site description for you without error. Of course, this comes at a price.
  • Together as tenant and landlord, prepare a paper place description. This is also valid, but be sure to prepare it in detail and according to the truth. Photos and videos are not required, but they will make the document much clearer.
