Gray
Gray in 2021 is no longer synonymous with boring or gloomy, but with characterful and elegant. You can find gray today in many different shades: gray-beige (also called: greige), gray-green and gray combined with the colors mauve or taupe. Gray gives a bit more punch and depth than white as a base color, especially if you apply the so-called concrete look. This is a paint technique where different shades of gray are combined to mimic the industrial look of concrete. By using gray with a warm undertone, the overall look is not cold. Furthermore, this interior trend of 2021 is easy to combine with different materials. Gray matches well with wood, but also with glass or fabrics such as linen, cotton or velvet. A greige floor, a concrete-look wall, gray cabinets in the kitchen … It will probably blend effortlessly with the look of your current interior.
Round shapes
This is going to be one of the biggest interior design trends of the next year. Round shapes in your interior make your home a soft and inviting, but also stylish place. Round is not to be taken too literally: everything that flows and has no corners, fits within this trend. With round shapes one quickly thinks of accessories: with a round vase, a lampshade or a circular carpet you can indeed easily freshen up your interior. Yet this trend goes further than that. We see that round furniture is in demand again. A round table or mirror is a classic, but today there are also chairs and seats on the market in a round shape. Do you really want to go all the way? Then choose a rounded kitchen top for your new kitchen or install round windows.
Statement piece
Those who like to give a fresh look to their interior, but do not want to change everything radically will welcome a statement piece with open arms. You can go big – literally – with a striking piece of art or a grand piano, but for those with limited space, there are plenty of other options! Add a striking color to your doors (or just the doorposts) or give your bathtub or stove a lick of paint. Be creative with lighting: a large lamp in the hallway or above the dining table immediately attracts attention. Or how about a personalized neon sign? Tip: be daring, but maintain your own style. Is it already eccentric? Then don’t let that stop you from going all the way! Do you have a rather sober style? Then try to make everyday objects just that little bit more special. A fireplace can be hung (!) these days and a mural is not just for public buildings anymore. There are plenty of opportunities for a statement piece in an everyday interior!
Interior trends: Rattan, bamboo & stone
Using natural materials and sustainable living has long since ceased to be a trend. In recent years, it has translated into a full-fledged lifestyle. It is still evolving: this can be seen in how materials (which made their appearance last year) can be used this year. Rattan, for example, has been big in the interior design world for a while, but mainly as an accessory. This year, rattan won’t just be around in baskets or around a mirror, but in seats, cradles or cabinets. Bamboo will also be used for more than furniture in 2021. Have you thought about a bamboo floor or door? Furthermore, we see the use of stone coming back more often for interior spaces. A stone staircase or stone bench in your home immediately gives a modern look. A stone wall (painted or unpainted) also provides a contemporary feel. An important note here is that not every stone is equally durable. So do your research if you like to see this material reflected in your durable interior.
Dark Blue
In addition to gray, dark blue will be a trending color next year. This color is available in remarkably many shades, so everyone will be able to find something appropriate. Dark blue is easy to combine (even with gray!). Especially with lighter colors, from white to powder pink to pastel green, the color shows up well. Don’t be afraid to use different shades of blue in the same room. As long as enough other colors are present, the whole will not overwhelm because of the peaceful nature of the color blue. Because of this peaceful nature, nothing will stop you from painting an entire wall dark blue, for example. This will give a bedroom an instant chic look. Moreover, blue is a characterful alternative to black. So you can choose dark blue kitchen cabinets or a dark blue sofa, which gives more depth than the classic black.
